The Fire and Lift Register is an important government initiative to help support the safe migration of monitored fire alarms and lift emergency phones from most existing networks1.
The nbn™ network will soon replace most existing fixed phone and internet networks – this switch will affect the operation of important services such as your monitored fire alarm and lift emergency phone.
Registering your monitored fire alarm or lift emergency phone service with the correct phone number (incl. area code) is required in order to be eligible for a deferred disconnection (to 1 July 2017).
The phone number (incl. area code) must be assigned to the fire panel or lift phone you are registering, and must be provided to complete the registration process.
You must register with nbn before 30 June in order to be eligible for deferred disconnection.
You can find your monitored fire alarm and/or lift emergency phone service’s phone number either on your bill or from your telecommunications service provider.
Registration on the Fire and Lift Register will only provide a temporary deferral of the disconnection date if eligible and you should ensure you talk to your monitored fire alarm and/or lift emergency phone service provider and organise for the monitored fire alarm and lift emergency phone services to be migrated to a working solution well before the respective disconnection dates.
It is important to note that registration should not replace the need for regular testing as it is still the owner/operator’s responsibility at all times to ensure that their monitored fire alarm and/or lift emergency phone services are working properly.
If you are disclosing others’ personal information to nbn for inclusion in the Register, you should have their consent to provide the information to nbn and notify those individuals that you have provided their information to nbn, and advise them of the purpose for which you provided it.

1Services provided over the nbn™ network will be replacing phone and internet services provided over most of the existing landline networks, including copper and the majority of HFC networks within the fixed line footprint. Existing fibre networks include in-building, health and education networks. Some special services may not be affected. To find out if your landline phone and internet services will be affected, please contact your current phone or internet provider. The rollout of the nbn™ network will involve new technologies and some existing devices (including many monitored fire alarms and lift emergency phones) may not be compatible with these at all times. You should contact your device provider to find out if your alarm or other device will work when connected to the nbn™ network and what alternative solutions are available.
