Once an application is submitted, nbn will assess the eligibility of the application and contact the applicant to further discuss the viability of the application as well as explain the process in more detail.
The end to end application process is set out below:
The fee structure is designed so that applicants are informed about the likely costs of installing an Area Switch without having to commit upfront to a design and quote fee. Applicants are able to withdraw their application prior to acceptance of the build quote, and only have to pay fees for work already completed.
Following payment of the application fee, nbn will conduct the feasibility assessment which includes an initial design and further estimated range of costs to design and build the infrastructure required.
If the applicant wishes to proceed, a design and quote fee will be paid. Following this payment, nbn will engage with contractors to develop a more detailed design, confirm availability of infrastructure, as well as provide a final build quote.
The build quote will set out the project management, design and construction costs and the applicant’s financial contribution, as well as a payment schedule, indicative timeframe and contract with terms and conditions.
As these activities are in addition to nbn’s planned rollout schedule, and the applicant is not obligated to accept the quote, nbn must recover the costs associated with developing the quote.
Applicants will be able to make the Build Quote payments in instalments or in full. This can be advised to nbn at the time of paying the Design and Quote fee. For applicants who wish to pay through instalments, nbn may require a credit assessment.
nbn will first request the applicant’s written consent to obtain a credit assessment, as required by law. nbn reserves the right (in its absolute discretion) to refuse an application or require full payment before commencing work based on the results of a credit assessment.
If an applicant does not wish to participate in a credit assessment, the applicant must make full payment for the Area Switch before work commences.
Government bodies are excluded from the credit assessment process.
An Area Switch application can be made by an authorised individual representing a group of premises. Read the important 'Before you apply' list before submitting your application online.
