nbn has commenced the first stages of building its world-leading Fibre to the Curb (FTTC) access technology, which is set to benefit more than one million homes and businesses across the nation by 2020.
Gigabit speeds are around the corner for eligible homes and businesses in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth and the Gold Coast. The news comes as a result of nbn's trials of technology called DOCSIS 3.1 on its Hybrid Fibre Coaxial (HFC) network - previously Telstra's pay TV cable.

In response to Tropical Cyclone Debbie and flooding across Queensland and Northern NSW, nbn has deployed field teams across impacted areas to ensure our network continues operating wherever possible. This includes positioning generators at priority sites where power outages continue and repairing damaged infrastructure as quickly as possible. The field teams consists of nbn employees, nbn delivery partners and nbn activations technicians. We ask for patience as nbn activation technicians are diverted from their normal duties to assist with the recovery.
Retailers are signing Australians up for fast internet over the nbn™ network at the quickest rate ever, with two million homes and businesses now connected and more than 4.5 million premises able to order a retail service over the nbn™ network.
nbn™ connected Aussies gobble up 23 per cent more data per year than the average home

Homes connected to services over the nbn™ network are downloading around 144GB of data each month which is a 32 per cent year-on-year increase and around 1.2 times the national fixed-line average and 76 times the mobile average.
